Miraikan × Katsushika School for the Deaf: Making Museum Experiences Accessible and Delightful for the Deaf
博物館や科学館は、展示物を「見る」場所だと思っていませんか？
でも実は、「きく」ことも展示を楽しむ上でとても重要なんです。 ろう・難聴者にとっては、音のする展示が楽しめない、説明がきこえない、ガイドに質問をしづらいといったハードルがあります。音がきこえづらいというだけで、知らなかった世界にのめりこむチャンスを逃しているかも。
音や声を耳できかずに楽しむ展示体験を作れないものでしょうか？
この日は葛飾ろう学校の校外学習の日。ご自身がろう者でもあるろう学校の先生が、日本科学未来館と一緒にろう者がもっと楽しめる、未来の展示体験を企画しました。
Do you think museum are where people enjoy only by “viewing” exhibits?
Actually, listening is also a crucial part of the experience. The deaf and hard – of – hearing face many challenges at museums, because they cannot fully experience exhibits with sounds, they find it hard to understand the audio guide, and they often find it difficult to ask questions. Due to their hardness of hearing, they might have missed chances to discover “unknown worlds”.
Can we create more engaging museum experiences without relying o hearing?
It was the day of the school trip for students from the Katsushika School for the Deaf. They visited Miraikan. For that day, Ms. Sugawara, a deaf teacher at the school, collaborated with Miraikan and planned more accessible and interactive museum experiences for the students.
